OSMO Hardwax-Oil Original 3062 Colourless Matt
Product description A colourless wood finish that uniquely combines the benefits of natural oils and waxes in a single product. Osmo Hardwax-Oil Original is stain-resistant, water-repellent and abrasion-resistant, and produces a surface that is pleasant to the touch. Compared to conventional coating systems, the use of plant-based ingredients results in a more even colour and a more harmonious finish. Easy to apply – no primer or intermediate sanding required – saving time and money. Open-pored to suit the wood, does not crack, flake or peel. Resistant to wine, beer, cola, coffee, tea, fruit juice, milk and water in accordance with DIN 68861-1A – no water marks. The dried finish is harmless to humans, animals and plants (saliva and sweat resistant according to DIN 53160, suitable for children’s toys according to EN 71.3). Areas of application Osmo Hard Wax Oil Original is ideal for protecting all wooden floors such as solid wood floorboards, wide plank flooring, ship decking, OSB and cork flooring, as well as furniture surfaces. Ingredients Based on natural vegetable oils (sunflower oil, soya oil, safflower oil) and waxes, paraffins, siccatives (drying agents) and water-repellent additives. De-aromatised white spirit (benzene-free). EU limit value for the product (Cat. 1.i): 500 g/l VOC (2010). This product contains a maximum of 500 g/l VOC. We will be happy to send you a detailed full declaration on request. Physical properties Specific gravity: 0.88–0.95 g/cm³ Viscosity: 95–240 mPas Odour: faint/mild, odourless after drying Flash point: ≥ 60 °C according to DIN EN ISO 2719 pH value: not required Shelf life: 5 years or longer if stored in the original sealed container. If the product has thickened due to frost, store at room temperature for 24 hours before use. Preparation The timber surface must be clean, dry and frost-free (max. 18% timber moisture content). Osmo Hardwax-Oil Original is ready to apply; do not dilute. Stir thoroughly. Thoroughly clean old open-pored coatings. Old paint and varnish coatings must be completely removed. Always wear a dust mask when sanding. Fill small cracks, larger gaps or holes in the wood (Osmo Wood Filler). Sand the wood surface carefully, starting with coarse sandpaper – final sanding for floors P120-150, furniture P180-240. Before oiling, remove sanding dust from the surface by sweeping and vacuuming. The finish depends, among other things, on the nature of the wood. Therefore, a test coat should always be applied – particularly on unknown substrates. Application Apply thinly in the direction of the wood grain using an Osmo flat brush, floor brush, oil-paint application fleece (hand pad holder) or microfibre roller, and spread thoroughly. Allow to dry for 8–10 hours in a well-ventilated area. Once dry, apply the second coat thinly and quickly. When renovating an already oiled surface, one coat is usually sufficient on the cleaned surface. Cleaning of tools Use Osmo Brush Cleaner (aromatic-free). Drying time: Allow to dry for approx. 8–10 hours in standard conditions (23 °C/50% relative humidity) with good ventilation. At lower temperatures and/or higher humidity, the drying time is significantly extended. Coverage The product covers 24 m² per litre with one coat. This depends largely on the condition of the existing wooden surface. All figures refer to smooth and planed/sanded surfaces. Other surfaces may result in a different coverage. Initial treatment of industrially pre-oiled or finished wooden floors: In the case of industrially pre-oiled wooden floors, it must always be clarified before initial treatment whether the floor is pre-oiled or finished. In the case of a pre-oiled floor, initial maintenance is generally not necessary; instead, a further thin coat of oil should be applied. In the case of a finished-oiled floor, however, a sufficiently protective surface has already been applied at the factory. If you wish to build up additional protection here, particularly for areas subject to heavy use, this is referred to as initial maintenance immediately after the floor has been laid. For warranty reasons, we recommend following the care instructions and guidelines provided by the manufacturer of your wooden floor. If, alternatively, you have decided to protect your wooden floor with an Osmo Hard Wax Oil finish, please note the following points. Apply a test coat to a sample or off-cut of the floor to be treated in accordance with the following application instructions: Final coat for a pre-oiled wooden floor: With pre-oiled wooden floors, the wood grain is usually still able to absorb a thin coat of Osmo Hard Wax Oil, applied with a floor brush or microfibre roller in the direction of the wood grain. This must be thoroughly worked into the surface. Allow for a consumption of approx. 20–25 g/m². Initial treatment of a fully oiled wooden floor: Under normal expected wear and tear, fully oiled wooden floors generally do not require additional surface protection. However, in areas subject to heavy wear and tear, it may be advisable to carry out an initial treatment to extend the regular maintenance intervals. As the wood pores in industrially finished oiled wooden floors are generally barely absorbent for an additional coat of Osmo Hardwax-Oil, care must be taken to apply it very thinly. Applied Hardwax-Oil must be levelled using a single-disc polishing machine or the Osmo articulated pad holder – in each case in conjunction with a white pad. Any excess must be removed with a lint-free cotton cloth. Expect a consumption of approx. 5–6 g/m². Once the additional maintenance coat has dried, the hard wax oil must not be easily scraped off the surface with a fingernail or other blunt object. Notes Oils enhance the natural colour of the wood (permanent wet look). Applying too thick a coat and inadequate ventilation will delay drying. For dark and nutrient-rich hardwoods (e.g. wenge, merbau, jatoba, etc.), we recommend using Osmo Clear Wax. A test coat is recommended. On cork surfaces, ensure the coat is particularly thin due to the material’s high absorbency. A longer drying time is to be expected on cork (at least 24 hours). Please note: Inside cupboards and drawers, apply a maximum of one thin coat using a cloth. For floors that have already been factory-treated, please always read the product information before using Osmo Hardwax-Oil Original. Wooden surfaces treated with Osmo Hardwax-Oil Original are easy to maintain. Remove coarse dirt with a broom or vacuum cleaner. To clean, add Osmo Wisch-Fix to the cleaning water and clean the surface with a mop that is damp (not wet!). For refreshing and intensive cleaning, use Osmo Wax Care and Cleaning Agent as required. If a higher gloss finish is desired, apply a thin layer of Osmo Wax Care and Cleaning Agent after thorough drying and polish once dry. Safety instructions Keep out of reach of children. Avoid contact with eyes, skin or clothing. If medical advice is required, have the packaging or label ready. Use only outdoors or in well-ventilated areas. Caution: Wash rags soaked in the liquid product immediately after use or store them in an airtight metal container (risk of spontaneous combustion). The dried coating complies with Class B2 (normally flammable) according to DIN 4102.
