3M™ Scotchcast™ 2131: Highly flexible protection for cables and splices When absolute reliability is essential in electrical installations, 3M™ Scotchcast™ 2131 polyurethane casting resin is the first choice for professionals. Whether in industry, mining or for demanding projects by tradespeople – this two-component system offers extremely durable insulation and mechanical protection for cable connections up to 1 kV. Maximum safety thanks to flame-retardant properties In environments where safety is the top priority, Scotchcast™ 2131 impresses with its flame-retardant formulation. It has been specially developed for use in adverse conditions. Thanks to its mining approval and high resistance to thermal shock, it is the ideal material for the permanent repair of cable sheaths on trailing or hauling cables. Excellent mechanical properties and flexibility A decisive advantage for carpenters and mechanical engineers: the resin remains semi-flexible after curing. With an elongation at break of approx. 339%, it adapts to the cable’s movements without tearing. The final hardness of around 82 Shore A simultaneously guarantees robust protection against mechanical impacts and abrasion in demanding everyday working conditions. Efficient processing with the GMG system Time is a precious commodity in the trades. The practical two-component GMG system (Closed Mixing and Casting System) enables clean mixing without direct skin contact. With a gel time of just 17 minutes (at 23 °C), downtime is minimised and work can be resumed quickly. Versatile applications for industry & professional tradespeople This casting resin is far more than just a simple insulating agent. It is a problem-solver for complex tasks : Cable repair : Replacement or repair of damaged cable sheaths on single- or multi-core power cables. Splice insulation : Secure sealing of cable splices in damp or mechanically stressed areas. Branch sealing : Perfect for sealing cable branches in industrial production. Electrical insulation : Long-lasting protection thanks to high dielectric strength. This durable polyurethane casting resin is characterised by a unique formulation for use in adverse conditions. The high dielectric strength ensures very good electrical insulation through the resin.3M™ Scotchcast™ Flame Retardant Resin 2131 has a low gelling temperature that ensures curing at room temperature. Thanks to the resin's high tensile strength, a semi-flexible consistency and good adhesion are achieved after curing. The casting resin is ideal for applications that require particularly high resistance to thermal shocks and mechanical impacts. The high flash point eliminates the risk of fire due to rapid ignition. The flame-retardant resin enables you to insulate cable splices with up to 1 kV and seal bifurcations or sheaths when terminating multi-core cables. RoHS 2011/65/EU compliant.
